David Wickens contacted this site after visiting the LAC Arthur Simons page where he recognised his father, Charles Wickens, in a group photograph taken during his time as a radio operator with 70 Squadron.

David has two albums of annotated photographs and we are very grateful to him for his intention to submit a selection of this very interesting material.

Among these pictures, David has a copy of the Squadron group photograph that appears on the Donald Millington page with the location and date written on the back in his father's handwriting.

Pilots: Sgt Sykes (left)  Squadron Leader Turner(right)

The Marina di Cantanzaro was the target of several bombing raids in August 1943 as part of the Allies' invasion of Italy.

It had marshalling yards, repair shops etc. and was an important strategic centre.

An internet search on "marina di cantanzano bombing 1943" etc. reveals several sources.
