Sgt Maher was killed when Wellington X, LN380, caught fire and crashed shortly after take-off from Tortorella airfield on 27th January,1944. Crew list (thanks to Alan Chapman, great-nephew of Frederick Clayton): Flight Sergeant Frederick Ronald Clayton (Age 20) Flight Sergeant Beal is 1st on left of the group in the photograph (identification thanks to Michael Ward, nephew).
